Should've Known Beller
The execution was not what I hoped for, although the concept was great and much of the crowd seemed thrilled. We could have done without the many sexual references. Even a story about Chipotle turned sexual. A joke here and there is maybe ok, but we heard too much about the "double Dick show" and the "2 Dicks show".
Strangelove - The Depeche Mode Experience had some really big hits, but they just do not have the popular song inventory to carry their half of the show. Honestly, I know this was supposed to be acoustical (which many equate to guitar), but several of Marx's biggest hits were sung from behind a piano, he is an excellent piano player and there was a piano on the concert hall floor. They sound great when sung with a piano. Go figure...he only played the piano for one song.
Some self deprecating humor is great, especially coming from someone living in Hollywood, but we came to hear Marx's outstanding music. Marx is a real artist and we did not see all of his talent at the show. We did not come to hear jokes about being old or little girls passing him by and flocking to Justin Timberlake.
On the positive side, there was just one veiled reference to our President as I certainly did not go to the show looking for their input on politics. Overall, I'd give it an average rating, but I was certainly looking for more. Hopefully Marx will come back to Atlanta on tour with his band and play his hit songs the way they should be played.
